Synergy between Finance and Tourism
In a significant move to strengthen the synergy between finance and tourism, the Managing Director of National Investment Bank PLC (NIB), Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, met with the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Hon. Dzifa Abla Gomashie. The meeting focused on collaborative strategies to bolster Ghana’s tourism sector and reinforce NIB’s role in national development.
Chief Dr. Zakaria emphasized the government’s recognition of NIB as a pivotal instrument for economic development. He highlighted the bank’s interest in exploring opportunities within the tourism sector, acknowledging its vast potential to contribute significantly to Ghana’s economic growth.
Addressing concerns about the bank’s stability, Chief Dr. Zakaria assured that NIB remains a robust and viable institution. He reported that, as of this year, the bank has been recording consistent monthly profits and expressed confidence in achieving a positive bottom line by the end of the year.
He appealed to the Ministry to collaborate with NIB by channeling its funds, along with those of its affiliated agencies, through the bank. Such a partnership, he noted, would not only strengthen NIB’s financial base but also enhance its capacity to support the government’s developmental initiatives.

Hon. Dzifa Abla Gomashie expressed gratitude to Chief Dr. Zakaria and his team for the visit and welcomed the prospect of partnering with NIB. She revealed that the Ministry is on the verge of securing a grant from two investors aimed at infrastructure improvement. Hon. Gomashie committed to obtaining the necessary approvals to open an account with NIB to manage these project funds, thereby fostering a collaborative relationship between the Ministry and the bank.
Further discussions centered on potential collaborations for revenue collection at national heritage sites, including the Osu Castle and other castles across the country. Hon. Gomashie proposed that NIB could play a pivotal role in streamlining and enhancing the efficiency of revenue collection at these sites.
In line with NIB’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Hon. Gomashie appealed to the bank to consider initiatives that would support the Ministry’s programs and benefit women in her constituency. She highlighted the importance of empowering women and promoting cultural tourism as avenues for sustainable development. This engagement marks a promising step towards a strategic partnership aimed at harnessing the potential of Ghana’s tourism sector. By aligning financial support with cultural and creative initiatives, NIB and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts are poised to contribute significantly to the nation’s economic and social advancement.
