NIB Strengthens Ties with Attorney General to Bolster Strategic Partnerships
The Managing Director of National Investment Bank PLC (NIB), Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, has paid a courtesy call on the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Hon. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, to discuss strategic issues affecting the bank and explore new business opportunities that will enhance NIB’s positioning in the financial sector.
During the meeting, Chief Dr. Zakaria raised a longstanding concern regarding public confusion between the National Investment Bank (NIB) and the National Investigations Bureau (also abbreviated as NIB, formerly BNI). He emphasized that the similarity in names has created significant challenges for the bank, particularly in its external engagements, and appealed to the Minister for a swift resolution through a formal name change for the security agency to eliminate the confusion.
The Managing Director also expressed appreciation to the Minister for the space allocated to NIB at the law courts and proposed that NIB be considered as a primary collection bank for the Judiciary. He further suggested a collaborative arrangement where NIB would co-collect funds alongside Ecobank, the current service provider, to ensure smooth financial operations within the courts.
Chief Dr. Zakaria underscored NIB’s fundamental mandate to support Ghana’s industrialization and manufacturing sectors and reiterated that the active participation of government agencies in banking with NIB would play a critical role in strengthening the bank’s financial base and overall impact. He also expressed his broader intention to reinforce the bank’s relationship with the Ministry of Justice and other public institutions.
In his response, Hon. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine expressed his willingness to support the bank’s initiatives and encouraged that, formal communications be sent to his office for follow-up action on the issues raised.
On the issue of court collections, the Attorney General assured NIB of his support and pledged to advocate for the retention of judiciary accounts with the bank. He further committed to promoting the idea of government agencies opening and maintaining accounts with NIB, as part of efforts to strengthen local financial institutions.
The meeting concluded on a promising note, with both parties agreeing to deepen collaboration and work closely to address the challenges and opportunities ahead.
