Investors F.C. Retain Bankers’ Football League Title
The male Football team of the National Investment Bank (NIB), Investors FC, have won this year’s Bankers’ Football League, having beaten off stiff competition from seven (7) other participating banks to retain the trophy for the second year running. The league which took place at the St. Thomas Aquinas School Park began on the 2nd of July 2022 with the final match which played on Saturday, 27th August 2022 between NIB’s Investors FC and Bank of Africa (BOA) FC.
BOA FC, put up a spirited performance by scoring the opener in just under 5 minutes into the game. Investors FC’s Maxwell Essuman, however, responded with an equalizer approximately 6 minutes after BOA’s opener. Dominating the game with their teamwork and tactical knowhow, Investors FC, Investors FC captain, Rasheed Isah, who had been the architect of almost all the incursions by the team nodded home a corner kick in the 14th minute to clinch the victory for NIB.
BOA occupied the top position in the league table prior to the finale and needed just a to lift the trophy but Investors FC was poised to win the league from their second position on the table. The eight (8) participating banks were: National Investment Bank (NIB); Bank of Ghana (BoG); Bank of Africa (BoA); Access Bank PLC and Consolidated Bank, Ghana (CBG). The rest were First Atlantic Bank (FAB); Stanbic Bank and Zenith Bank.
Team Coach and Technical Director, George Mettle of the Transaction Processing Unit was adjudged “Best Coach” of the tournament with Kweku Ghansah of the SME Department (Accra Main) bringing home the coveted “Golden Boot” as the “Goal King” of the tournament, having scored 7 goals.
Presenting the trophy to Managing Director, Mr Samuel Sarpong and Deputy Managing Director, Mr Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo at the Headquarters, on 30th August, 2022, Mr Sarpong thanked them for lifting the flag of NIB high and bringing honour to the bank.
He assured them of some acknowledgement to reward their selflessness, hard work and commitment to the NIB brand.
Investors FC is expected to play in the Champions of Champions against the winners of Corporate League Ghana in a date yet to be confirmed.
